Is social ballroom dancing like Dancing With the Stars?
Yes and no. Social events like USA Dance use a lead-and-follow method of ballroom dancing (instead of choreographed routines), with one partner leading basic (and sometimes more intricate) patterns and the other following cues. However, at each party we do take a short break to watch performances by area instructors and their partners and students. Many of these showcases are choreographed.

What kind of music do you play?
A mix of traditional, Latin, pop, rock, and oldies. At our parties you’ll hear artists ranging from Dean Martin and Santana to ZZ Top and Lady GaGa.

What should I wear?
We recommend dressy but not super-formal attire unless it’s for our annual Holiday Ball. (In December, we generally wear cocktail dresses and tuxedoes.) The most important part of your wardrobe should be your shoes. Make sure the soles are smooth enough to glide when you dance; rubber soles can grip the floor, keep you from moving properly, and maybe even cause you to trip and fall.

What if I just want to watch?
That’s fine. First-time guests get in for only $5, so you can jump right in or simply watch, if you prefer.

I want to learn ballroom dancing.  How should I start?
You can come to our monthly dances, take our group lesson, and try it out. Also, look at our "Calendar" tab for other lesson and dance opportunities and to find information on local studios and other dance venues.

Is USA Dance affiliated with a studio?
No. USA Dance is a non-profit organization that promotes ballroom dancing nationwide.

What is the venue like?
TBA

Do I need a partner?
Absolutely not. Ballroom dancing is a highly social activity, and participants are encouraged to dance with a variety of people unless they feel uncomfortable doing so.

Do I need to be an experienced dancer?
No. People of all dance levels and ages are welcome. Our one-hour lessons are geared toward beginners as well as advanced dancers, so this is a good way to get your feet wet.
